Chinatown Girl

05 April 2019

This is a re-release of a book in the My Story series. They have updated the cover to appeal to a new audience.

The book is written in the style of a diary which makes it very easy to read and engages the reader quickly. Being set in Auckland in 1942, it gives us a glimpse of life in New Zealand during the war through the eyes of Chinese descendants. This gives us a very different perspective of what it was like and provides photos of Auckland’s Chinatown during World War 2.

This was a story that I was sorry to have completed and would have happily read more about the life of young Silvey and her family.

Teachers notes for this book can be found on the Scholastic website here.
