Early One Morning

08 February 2022

This charming little jewel of a story is about an independent young child who proudly makes breakfast for himself and his cat without waking his parents and sister. The story is shot through with an exuberant optimism as the child details all that he does to ensure that he and the cat are “thoroughly fed”.

The simple colourful illustrations enhance this feeling, while also showing the naivety of the child sharing milk from the carton with the cat and allowing it to eat butter from the butter dish. The simple vocabulary and easy rhyme make this book suitable not only to be read with very young children but it is also accessible for early readers.
