Hare and Ruru

01 December 2020

This is a story of Hare who would like to find quiet but once he escapes the noises around him he is left with the noises within. Ruru flies down with some sage advice for Hare. Hare accepts the advice and is able to find peace.

That is a very simple outline of a book filled with so much more. Laura Shallcrass has delivered a peaceful book dealing with huge issues like noise or sensory overload, stress and anxiety. The text and the illustrations are simple but compelling. Although there are obvious benefits in using this book to support struggling students it will be equally appealing as a general book for all. Designed to encourage discussion, there are teaching notes at the end of the book with strategies for calming.
