Kupu Tauaro/Opposites

09 February 2021

This board book has an appealing simplicity with only one or two words per page and well-drawn indigenous creatures used to illustrate each opposing concept. Although this book is labelled as a book suitable for teaching te reo Māori to babies, it has far greater application. The bilingual nature of the book makes it a great resource for anyone learning te reo and so are the other books in this third series of Reo Pēpi, which include such concepts as: Mahi; Actions, and Kare ā-roto; Feelings.

The shape and size of the book is also aesthetically pleasing and invites readers to engage with it and therefore encourages the learning of te reo Māori. This combined with its durability and wipe clean surface makes it a very practical addition to all classrooms and libraries in Aotearoa.
