Moose the Pilot

21 October 2021

This is another beautiful picture book from award winning Kimberly Andrews. As Moose recounts a tale of adventure to three young puffins, we follow his deliveries to remote homes and their residents within magnificent vistas. The careful details in the illustrations make each page delightful. From the telling book spines in Moose’s office to hunting for butterflies on each page to help the Lofty Alps Entomological Association’s annual survey, readers are sure to spend time pouring over each page.

With many characters to help and different planes for different landings, Moose delivers all manner of items and is rewarded with many gifts of thanks. He carefully stows them on his plan before being called for his last job, a rescue mission.

I greatly enjoyed the pictures. The twists of Moose’s journeys were fun and the map showing his route was complimentary. The rhyming is clever but occasionally the last two lines did not follow the rhyme, which is something to be prepared for if reading it aloud.

I would recommend this book for all primary children but lovers of art and maps will especially enjoy it.
