My Kiwi Gumboots
This is a fun book with lots to explore. The illustrations are a mixture of pictures drawn by the main character and pictures with lots to see and explore. The text is written as a rhyme like all good songs are but unlike other stories written in this manner there was no obvious ‘music’ to reading the text aloud, which meant that once you put the CD on you were able to enjoy the song as a separate experience. The text and the song are then repeated in Te Reo and my class were equally enthralled by both versions. A glossary in the back helps you learn the kupu, if you are unable to determine the meaning by comparing both texts. It is always wonderful to find, and hear, texts in English and Te Reo.
