Old Truck and the Flood

30 March 2021

This book has it all: text which flows easily, an old truck that can talk and has feelings, lots of action linked with a natural disaster, humour, bonus pages of factual information and gorgeous illustrations. And it is all based on a calamity that occurred here in New Zealand!

Youngsters will enjoy joining the truck in saying the recurring rhyming refrain and no doubt giggle when the restored vehicle farts out a stinky rotten fish skeleton.

For those interested in the flood aspect of the story, there's extra reading at the back giving further information and newspaper articles. There's also information included to educate readers on how to be prepared and recover from a flood. For those with very limited knowledge about the workings of motor vehicles, the glossary will prove useful.

What a great tool to introduce the topic of floods! Or just enjoy it purely for being a fantastic story.
