Tatty Catty

09 February 2021

The cat nicknamed Tatty, short for Tatiana but aptly descriptive of her appearance, is off on an adventure. She boards a pirate ship and sails off to sea. After being discovered as a stowaway Tatty is welcomed on board and we share the sights and delights of the voyage with her.

This read aloud book is written in rhythmic pattern, although loosely at times, and includes interesting verbs like ‘lugged and quivered’. The text is simple but engaging and the font clear and offset in keeping with the style of the illustrations.

The illustrations are big and bold and quite detailed for lots of discussion. Tatty Catty is strangely appealing with her ragged fur and crooked tail.

I think younger children will enjoy the adventures of tabby Tatty Catty at sea.
