The Kiwi Runners’ Family Tree Volume Two: 2000-2020

02 August 2021

This book features interviews and stories of more than 45 running-related New Zealand athletes and coaches. The profiles are separated into sections: Sprinters, Middle-Distance Runners, Long-Distance Runners, Hurdlers and Steeplechasers, Race Walkers, Para Athletes and Mountain Ultra-Distance and Adventure Runners, a full range of running athletes to inspire readers. The range of achievements of the runners featured is from National to international levels, supported by large scale photographs, with lots of action shots!

Readers do not have to be Runners to appreciate the achievements portrayed, they will be inspired by the commitment, determination and passion of these New Zealanders to achieve their personal best. Many of the athletes are women and running legend Alison Roe who wrote the foreword says, “I am incredibly humbled at how far women have come in the discipline of running since I first started out, and marvel at the diversity and inclusiveness in today’s athletic community”.

The Kiwi Runner’s Family Tree, Volume 2 will appeal to readers who are interested in sports and learning about the motivations, struggles and achievements of contemporary athletes.

How are you recommending this book? Recommended.

Opening sentence: In volume one of The Kiwi Runners’ Family Tree I used Arthur Lydiard’s words, ‘Give me 100 athletes and I’ll give you 100 champions’, as the inspiration to document all New Zealand runners who have achieved an international podium finish or achieved a substantial international feat, such as a world record or world first.
