What Do You Need Little Rhino?

08 February 2022

It is easy to see on the cover that Little Rhino is angry, she is so angry she doesn’t know what she needs to clam herself down. Her mum and dad try their best to find out what is troubling Little Rhino but these huge emotions have spiralled out of control.

Little Rhino expresses a range of big emotions, which are so clearly depicted in the illustrations. Although there is limited text the emotive parts are handwritten by John J Lewis’ daughter and are big, bold and expressive.

This story is one parents face all the time, huge tantrums out of nowhere and the frustration of trying to comfort and console their child. A great conversation starter on dealing with emotions and an introduction to discussions on how children prefer to be comforted and calmed when they are upset.
