What’s In the Box?
This book is a great way to teach the use of direct speech in writing and to support inference skills in Reading. The book relies upon the pictures to ‘tell the story’ as two friends try to guess what will be in the box they have found. As the story evolves the pictures become more elaborate as each prediction is included in the following pictures. Once one of the class noticed this they all enjoyed searching for each item. The text would lend itself nicely to a written language piece about what they think would be in a box and could easily be put together for a class book.
