This 5-day course is part of Creative Matakana, a week of creative workshops based in and around Matakana, a picturesque village set among vineyards, markets and beaches, just one hour north of Auckland.
The course will look at all the parts that go together to make a picture book – the story, the text, the design and the pictures. No previous experience is necessary and a lack of drawing skills could be an advantage! In other words – don’t be put off doing this course if you think you can’t draw. Come and have some fun!
Gavin Bishop has published over 60 children’s books which have been translated into nine languages. His awards are too many to mention, but in 2000 he was awarded the Margaret Mahy medal for Services to Children's Literature (New Zealand's Highest Honour for Children's Literature); from 2013 to 2014 he was the President of Honour for the NZ Society of Authors, and in 2013 he was awarded the ONZM by the NZ Government for his services to literature. Gavin's most recent book is 'Aotearoa', a glorious visual history of New Zealand.
