Sometimes the quest for meaning can shift the focus away from sound in a poem. In this workshop we will go back to words as the building blocks of poems and explore different ways to approach sound. We will look at examples of aural techniques used by different poets over time. We will develop ways to infuse our writing practice with the weird and the unexpected, and move past familiar and habitual modes. Limited to 12 participants. She is the author of four collections of poetry, all published by Victoria University Press, most recently "Flow: Whanganui River Poems" (2017). She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters. Airini’s thesis looked at narrative in contemporary long poems and poem sequences.
