Join us at 11am on Saturday, August 31st for a special Storytime session of Margaret Mahy's story A Lion in the Meadow / He Raiona i Roto i Ngā Otaota. After winning a giant-sized (1m x 1m) copy of this classic New Zealand story for having the best national display of the NZ children's book award finalists, we decided that we had to celebrate the occasion. This huge book, donated by the publisher Hachette NZ, features the story in both English and te reo Māori and is one of only three printed, so we feel very honoured to own a copy. Our regular storyteller Helen Vivienne Fletcher (aka the Green Fairy) and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ara Whanui teacher Mihi Williams will share the honours of reading the story in both languages. Afterwards, Moira Wairama, the author of The Taniwha of Wellington Harbour will tell us about the dramatic legend of how the actions of friends Whātaitai and Ngake created Wellington Harbour. This free event will be ideal for preschoolers through to age 10 and their families. All welcome but let us know by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone 04 387 3905 if you are coming so that we can arrange enough seating.
