Welcome to our new series of poetry readings at Unity Books! At 6pm on the last Friday of every month, join us for a stellar line-up of three different poets. Our first readers: Ashleigh Young Jackson Nieuwland & 1 more tbc! See you there xx Ashleigh Young is the author of How I Get Ready (VUP, 2019), Can You Tolerate This? (VUP, 2016), and Magnificent Moon (VUP, 2012). Her poetry and essays have been widely published in print and online journals in New Zealand and overseas. She gained an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2009. Ashleigh writes a fortnightly column in Canvas Magazine and edits the Friday Poem at The Spinoff. She works as an editor at Victoria University Press. Jackson Nieuwland is a human being, duh. They are a genderqueer writer, editor, librarian, and woo-girl, born and based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. They co-founded the reading/zine series Food Court. This isn’t even their final form. Winner of the Jessie Mackay Prize for Poetry in the MitoQ Best First Book Awards at the 2021 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards.
