NZ Poetry Conference & Festival - Auckland 2017

After big successes in Hawke’s Bay in 2013 and Wellington in 2015, the third NZ Poetry Conference is happening in Auckland 10-12 November. The aims are to promote and celebrate NZ’s poetry writers, to offer workshops and networking links and to provide innovative opportunities for collaboration between our talented poets and the wider arts-loving community. Hear new poetry from Phantom Billstickered poets Serie Barford and David Merritt; Caselberg 2017 winner Majella Cullinane; Divine Muses 2017 runner up Ruby Porter; NZPS Anthology first prize winner Alexandra Fraser; plus fabulous poetry writers including Courtney Sina Meredith, Peter Bland, Leilani Tamu, Wystan Curnow, Vaughan Rapatahana, Stephen Oliver, Bob Orr, Rachel McAlpine, Albert Wendt. Poets Laureate Ian Wedde, Cilla McQueen, Michele Leggott and 2015 – 2017 Laureate Karl Stead will share notes, and get updated onHone Tuwhare’s legacy Kaka Point Crib from Rob Tuwhare in discussion with Robert Sullivan. The Festival, designed to complement the conference, comprises Friday Saturday and Sunday evening events cross-pollinating various arts, such as cinepoetics/ Poetry Live! collab, Visualis art collab, South Auckland Poets’ Collective performance poetry, new book launches; One Night in Shanghai poetry cabaret; Shaky Places sung poem concert, open-space takeovers and more. All Festival events are open to the public and are either modestly ticketted, koha or free.
