Words Will Work: South Auckland Writers Festival

Even if you’ve only written a To-Do list before, this very first South Auckland Writers Festival may be just what you need to hit the ground writing.

The aim of our festival is to provide an event for writers that has a uniquely South Auckland flavour. It takes place on 26/27th October at the Mangere East Community Centre and the Metro Theatre – Friday afternoon and Saturday.

The highlight of the Friday evening will be Ant Sang and Brian Thurogood who are giving a joint demonstration of graphic novel-writing. This presentation is going to be interactive with the audience and it should be most unusual, informative and light-hearted. On Saturday there is a panel discussion with four authors of crime novels. As this is a genre which is so popular it will be interesting to see how they all approach their stories.

There is also a keynote speaker in the afternoon with Janice Marriott who is renowned as an outstanding teacher and will be very much worth listening to. There are a number of workshops as well as talks, and so have a look at the programme https://wordswillwork.nz/programme-2018/

Tickets for the workshops are limited and so if you want to attend any, we suggest you book as soon as possible.

The two groups organising the event, the Franklin Writers Group and the South Auckland Writers Group, have tried to keep the prices of events as low as possible, to encourage as many writers or interested readers to attend and also to allow visitors to attend more than one speaker.
