Opening sentence
I am sitting on the open deck of the Monowai, recording my first-ever diary entry.
I have always loved this series and the way they share historical events through the eyes of very relatable characters and this book did not disappoint. You instantly make a connection with Sam and his plight as he searches for his brother after losing his parents.
A google search led me to a great resource by Scholastic. Teacher notes about the text and follow up questions for each chapter. I did have to use Castaway – The diary of Samuel Abraham Clark, Disappointment Island, 1907 (My Story) as the search prompt.
