Opening sentence
Stickboy lived in wind and dust, where ancient rock loomed like waves waiting to break.
Stickboy is a visually striking book that explores themes of difference, belonging, and resilience. Written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Matt Ottley, this story follows a boy made of sticks who struggles to fit into a world that doesn't always welcome those who stand out.

The book's simple yet poetic language makes it accessible for readers of all ages, and Ottley's expressive illustrations bring Stickboy's emotions to life. His journey - facing bullying, loneliness, and eventual self-acceptance - resonated deeply with me, and I believe it would make a valuable read for classrooms and families alike. I personally intend to read this book to my Year 9 students and explore the rich figurative language and imagery that Young uses.

Stickboy is more than just a story about bullying: it's a thoughtful reflection on identity and kindness. It encourages readers to embrace differences and reminds us all about the power of empathy.
