The Raven’s Eye Rebellion

'The Raven’s Eye Rebellion' is the sequel to 'The Raven’s Eye Runaways' (a book I haven’t read), so it was helpful that it begins with a note from the author setting the scene and providing some context for what comes next. That being said, there were a few side characters that were written in a way that implied I had more knowledge of them and their backstory than I did, along with some pretty big spoilers for book 1 – such is the curse of starting with the sequel!

The author has constructed her magical world well, using poetic and descriptive language. Even after finishing the book, I can still picture the locations she described. I especially liked The Lacuna, the magical boat the children and their menagerie call home.

'The Raven’s Eye Rebellion' raises questions about knowledge – who should have it? Should it be restricted? What power and dangers can come with having (or not having) knowledge? Are there some things you are better not to know?

The book is fast-paced with short chapters, making it easy to dip in and out, an will appeal to readers of adventure fantasy. And while there are some book series where it doesn’t matter which order you read them in, this is definitely one where it is important to start with book 1.
