Clare Moleta was born in Aotearoa, grew up in Western Australia and has lived in Pōneke since 2005. Her fiction has been published in literary journals and broadcast on Radio New Zealand. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. Unsheltered, her first novel, was published in 2021.

Bio

Moleta, Clare was born in Wellington and raised on Whadjuk Noongar Country in Western Australia.

Her fiction has been published in literary journals and broadcast on Radio New Zealand, and she has won awards for her travel writing.

Moleta has a Writing Diploma from RMIT University and an MA in Creative Writing from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington.

Moleta's novel Unsheltered, the story of a woman searching desperately for her daughter in a climate-ravaged continent, was published by Simon & Schuster Australia in 2021.

An eco-thriller, Unsheltered was met with acclaim and longlisted for the 2022 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Author Elizabeth Knox observed that it ‘reads like a thriller, is utterly convincing in all its invention, and kept a hard hold of me from beginning to end.’

Moleta currently lives in Wellington.
