Opening sentence
Today was going to be revolutionary.
The first book in the Dreamslinger series introduces us to Aria Loveridge, a 14-year-old dreamslinger trying to fit into a world which views her genetic mutation (which transports her to a magical realm while sleeping) with suspicion.

New York Times bestselling author Graci Kim, author of the Gifted Clans trilogy, has created a beautifully crafted and believable world which brings together elements of her Korean and Kiwi cultures, interwoven with a multi-faceted fantasy storyline.

From its beginnings in Texas, the story immerses us in a rich world full of well-drawn characters and intricate details as it enters the kingdom of Hanguk, hidden deep in the heart of Seoul. It takes time and focus to keep the many new words, characters and ideas in order, but the effort is well-rewarded as the story unfolds in a way which allows it to continually surprise the reader. It reads as a well set-up beginning to a series, with rich details ready to be explored in future instalments.

The trio of Aria, Lion and Tui bring their individual talents to form a rock-solid friendship, alongside their magical dreampanions, as they face multiple internal and external challenges.

A highly recommended fresh, original read for those aged 8-14, particularly those with a keen eye for detail and a love of fantasy and magic.

This would be excellent to read aloud, coupled with a good glossary to ensure students get the key ideas and can keep the storyline in order.
