Opening sentence
There is a woman in this story, and you're her.
Short | Poto is a collection of short short stories, or micro stories, which can be used in the teaching of poetic writing or for close reading in secondary schools. Whilst some of the stories could be carefully chosen and used in senior primary classes, I would recommend not using the physical book because of the mature content of some of the stories. Secondary teachers could use the book with discretion.
The writing in the book is made up of exquisite, poetic moments, memoirs and points of view. Readers flit from moving house to buying a corner on a river, from surviving earthquakes to strawberry picking, from finding where you belong to missing the moon landing.
Some of the stories have been originally written in te reo Māori and translated into English, whilst others have been written in English and translated into te reo Māori so all stories and poems sit facing their translations, perfect for people who are learning one of the languages and wish to confirm their reading with their native understanding.
Content advisory: Contains adult themes and language.
