Tui Pea Luva

'Tui Pea Luva' means to weave, then gift. This is the authentic debut poetry collection of Tongan author, Mele Tonga-Grant.

The 48 original poems are inspired by women who have influenced the author. Featured are themes of resilience, memories, family bonds and the intergenerational wisdom of women. Throughout, Tonga-Grant’s passion for celebrating Tongan heritage, culture and her own creative expression is evident. The layout, titles and font are bold, fun and inviting. Tonga-Grant has a background in library services and revels in any opportunity to pass on the stories, traditions, culture and knowledge of Pasifika people such as through spoken word events, cultural workshops in schools, and performing arts.

In 2025, 'Tui Pea Luva' was a finalist in the NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. Youth curious or passionate about poetry will be inspired, and readers of any age will find words that speak to them.
