Opening sentence
Some special creatures are just waking.
What happens in the forest at night? Who watches over the animals? This beautifully presented book shares the secrets of the night-time in the forest in Aotearoa. From the kaitiaki, Ruru, to the smallest pūngāwerewere (spider) there is so much activity happening in the darkest hours.
The te reo Māori component of this bilingual text is subtly translated within the exquisite illustrations. It is a beautifully presented introduction to the wildlife of Aotearoa and a must-share book. The minimal text is ideal for a younger audience, but the book could equally be shared within junior primary school as an introduction to Aotearoa New Zealand wildlife. Further information of each of the native species is found at the back of the book.
