Opening sentence
Nau mai ki te ngahere, welcome to the forest
I really enjoyed flicking through the pages of this book and imagining myself in the forest with all the amazing creatures waking up to a glorious day.

A really great entry level to Te Reo, 'Te Ngahere i te Rā' seamlessly translates the Māori as you read providing the reader with confidence to read and to understand the language. If you are still unsure there is a running glossary throughout the book (and some further information on some of the New Zealand natives in the back of the book).

The gorgeously soft illustrations are detailed depictions of the flora and fauna of Aotearoa. While they are soft and gentle - like being in the forest, they are clearly drawn so they can be identified by species, a fantastic tool to teach about our local bush and its inhabitants.

The book is physically big enough to be read to a group with detailed drawing, making the learning in this book accessible to even those who are yet to read. Thick matte pages are sturdy, ready to be read over and over again - which I’m sure you will.
