Opening sentence
Miss Burtons class was set on a brand-new classroom pet.
You can quickly see why this book won the Storylines Joy Cowley award. The illustrations are tremendous with lots of interesting aspects to discuss and talk about with youngsters.

The bold, clear writing is helpful for young readers. The story romps along at pace and could be used for ‘what happens next’ writing or conversations. There’s some great rhyming lines and alliteration which make the writing fun to read and listen too. Certain adjectives are written with bright colours which is great for learners developing their vocabulary.

A riveting read-aloud that young readers will want to reread themselves again and again. Every ECE or new entrants room should have a copy. And later age groups would have fantastic fun writing what turmoil ‘might’ happen with a different class pet!
