Bartha Hill is a children's book author and journalist, and she has worked as a researcher and organiser for World Vision. As a freelance journalist her writing has appeared in local newspapers and magazines, and she has written for school journals and children’s educational publications. Her book, Kiwi Adventures, tells a number of stories about the South Island, and like much of her writing it has a Christian application. Bartha Hill is available for school visits as part of the Writers in Schools programme.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hill, Bartha (1940 –) is a children’s book writer and a freelance journalist.

Hill was born in Holland and immigrated to New Zealand in 1954. She began her career working as a teacher. In 1968 Hill left New Zealand, and during her time abroad lived in Indonesia, Hong Kong, England, and the United States before returning to New Zealand in 1980.

Hill is a longtime freelance journalist who has also worked as a researcher/writer/organiser for World Vision. As a journalist Hill’s work has appeared in the Otago Daily Times, Daystar, NZ Women’s Weekly, Harvest Field and Reality. Her stories for children have appeared in the School Journal and the children's magazines Discovery and Choices.

Hill’s books include No Harvest Until (1975), Reflecting God’s Grace (2000), Alejandro’s Great Idea (2002) and Destination Chad: The Remarkable Missionary Journey of Ben & Winsome Webster (DayStar Publication Trust, 2003).

Bartha Hill lives in Wanaka and participates in the Writers in Schools programme.

Bartha Hill's Destination Chad: The Remarkable Missionary Journey of Ben & Winsome Webster was published by DayStar Publication Trust in 2003. It tells the story of Ben and Winsome Webster and their experiences working in aid and development projects around the world.

Kiwi Adventures tells a number of stories about the South Island, including the stories of Richard Pearse, the yellow eyed penguin and other birds, the gold mining days, early missionaries, and more. Each story has a Christian application.
