ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Joyce, Karalyn (1964 - ) writes short stories and poetry for children. She describes her stories as 'easily recognisable and full of "real" life characters and settings.'

Joyce was born and raised in Timaru. In 1998 she attended Owen Marshall’s Fiction Writing Course at Aoraki Polytechnic. In 2000/2001 she attended Whitireia Polytechnic Advanced Diploma in Writing.

Joyce’s stories and poems have appeared in magazines and anthologies including Takahē, Grace, NZ Outdoor, North & South, The NZ Listener, Fresh Fields and The 3rd Century: New Short Stories 2000.


Joyce’s first book The Adventures of Somerset Bear was illustrated by Helen Applegate and was published in 2000.

Karalyn Joyce is a single mother who lives and works in South Canterbury. She ran a correspondence course for children on writing called The Write Away Club.
