ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kennedy, Julie (1947 - ) is a Picton-based writer whose published works have often centered on this small South Island port.

She has lived in New Zealand, England, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, and for five years lived across the road from the Days Bay cottage where Katherine Mansfield spent the holidays of her youth.

Katherine Mansfield in Picton (2000) traces the links between the famous writer and the isolated Marlborough Sounds at the northern tip of the South Island. It quotes from Mansfield and her family, including her grandparents, Arthur and Mary Beauchamp, one-time residents of Picton.

Mansfield's story 'The Voyage', an account of a trip to Picton from Wellington on the Cook Strait ferry, is included in the book.

'Readers associated with Picton or those who have read, or intend re-reading the works of one of New Zealands best known writers will find something of interest here,' writes Dee Wilson in The Marlborough Express.

Julie Kennedy has 10 poems included in the Aotearoa New Zealand Poetry Sound Archive. The archive was launched in 2004 and features recordings of 171 New Zealand poets reading their work.
