Stirling, Amiria (Te Whānau‑ā‑Apanui, Ngāti Porou, Kāi Tahu) is a qualified teacher and Director of Taiako Ltd, a Māori language and education consultancy serving clients like Huia, Te Papa, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and the Ministry of Education. She is also a published language researcher and author, specialising in content and curriculum design in te reo Māori.

Her creative writing began with short stories. ‘Whakaurupā Taku Aroha’ won Best Māori Story for a first-time author at the 2019 Pikihuia Awards and appeared in Huia Short Stories 13. ‘Ngā Ngeru o te Tiriti o Pāia’ received the inaugural Storylines Te Kāhurangi Katerina Te Heikōkō Mataira Award in 2020. Her picture book featuring the playful lives of street pets was published in 2022 in English as The Cats of Pāia Street, and in te reo Māori as Ngā Ngeru.

Stirling’s writing and teaching are unified by a commitment to revitalising te reo Māori and celebrating Māori stories.
