Big Bang Bread

The cover illustration and small print under the title should alert the reader to the fact this is a time travelling story. 'Big Bang Bread' starts off as an innocent decision to make bread but immediately turns into a far bigger journey back in time. 13.8 billion years back to be exact. Then we travel forwards through the Big Bang, the formation of the universe, dinosaurs and onwards until we actually have the ingredients to begin.

While the story travels through history quite quickly there is just enough information for an early introduction to the formation and development of our planet to hold young readers attention.

And finally, the family do get to make bread. There is recipe inside the front cover although it is partly hidden by the French flap or gatefold which also has additional historical timeline information on the underside, these are continued inside the back cover and flap.

The illustration are clear and colourfully engaging and complement the text beautifully. The use of speech bubbles throughout keep the characters present in the story throughout the different ages.
