Opening sentence
A warm sun rose on the sleeping farm.
Using a menagerie of farm animals, this book captures the essence of mindfulness and strategies to promote calmness in a fun, engaging way. It is most suited for younger children, although could still work for all ages. The rhythmic story draws the reader into the text, using a colour system to describe emotions: Rooster was feeling red... this is what he does to calm down again.
This story would work well as a classroom read-aloud, prompting a discussion or practice on the mindfulness strategies that help children to express what they're feeling and understand how to manage these big emotions. It would also lend itself well into a discussion on interesting vocabulary - there is a lot of great language throughout the story.
