Opening sentence
Mr Hindbottom liked many things.
Mr Hindbottom liked being by himself; at least, he thought he did. One day, a salesman came to the door, but Mr Hindbottom was not interested in what he had to sell. When the man left and a stray dog was left behind, Mr Hindbottom was not happy. He tried to ignore Dog, but Dog stayed. As Mr Hindbottom went about his days, the dog stayed. Slowly, Dog became part of Mr Hindbottom's life, and eventually his heart. Together, they found companionship, but as always, things change. Mr Hindbottom started to slow down, and Dog was by himself again; or so he thought.
'Dog Stayed' is a wonderfully told story about companionship and love. The language is simple yet powerful, connecting the reader to the story. The illustrations match the story perfectly, and readers will enjoy seeing the characters grow and connect with the images. A great book to read to a class, or add to a library collection.
