Opening sentence
I'm Giraffe! That's me, your dad, I prune and plant and water.
Giraffe the gardener wants to pass on his gardening knowledge to his daughter, but how did Giraffe gain all his knowledge in the first place? Giraffe takes us on a journey through many gardens sharing skills he has learnt.
There is just so much happening in this story. Firstly, the reader gets to enjoy a progressive text that builds and adapts through the story. At the same time the reader is introduced to many different gardens and tasks. There are also diagrams of types of plants, planting techniques and more. And for pure entertainment there is a further storyline developed in the illustrations of many different animals in their natural habitats. Kimberly Andrews has packed a lot into the images which are busy, engaging and informative.
Each time a reader explores this book there are bound to be new discoveries within the text, fact boxes and illustrations. But wait there’s more… as if there wasn’t enough to hold your interest, on the end pages there is a maze with hidden gnomes.
What a treasure!
