Opening sentence
Under an old stone bridge, nestled between wild tussock and mossy rocks, lived a troll named Grumble.
'Grumble's Bridge' is a great play on the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. A great way to help students make connections and predict what may happen under Grumble's bridge. Poor, tired Grumble just wants to get some sleep but the other animals trying to cross his bridge are just too noisy. This would be a great jumping-off point for encouraging tamariki to try retelling other fairy tales from the "bad guy's" perspective.
