My tiger loved cake.
'My Tiger' is another stunning book from Joy Cowley. It follows the story of a tiger who ate too much cake, ending with a trip to the dentist (with a fun twist at the end). There are many great writing opportunities that this book presents and it would work well in a junior or middle school classroom (although my senior students loved reading it, too).

While the text is minimal, the illustrations are incredible and build the story through inferencing. It would work beautifully as a read aloud in the junior school, with great opportunities for discussions and invitations to predict what's on the next page. There are also some cool art projects you could do based on this story (whether on tigers, cakes or something else). A fantastic book that should be in every school in Aotearoa!
