Opening sentence
Sunshine! Sunblock, a sunhat each, skipping down the track to the sun-baked beach.
'Sand-Play Time on the Sun-Baked Beach' is a great picture book set at the beach, with lots of counting, adding, and subtracting woven in. It features lots of great rhyming passages on each page, and repetition which creates a strong flow and keeps the reader engaged. The illustrations are fun, and are designed to be appealing to the young readers the book is written for. Drawings capture the essence of the text, and give opportunities for visual discussions and physical counting. The paperback, about 210mm square, is a smaller format picture book and ideal for one-on-one and small group reading. I enjoyed reading this book, and could also see it being used as a basis for further activities about counting, or being at the beach.
