Opening sentence
Far from the sandy shore, a great white shark is born.
'Saving Shark Pup' centres on the true story of a great white shark pup washed ashore on Manly Beach, Sydney. It describes the teamwork of people trying to rescue him and return him safely to the wild, through many attempts and failings and people’s determination to not give up and to try again. It’s beautifully written, with nice, short sentences that are interwoven with great factual information about sharks and the rescue on each page.
This is a heart-warming story that children will love to listen to or read themselves. It can also be a starting point, not just for the event itself, but also for learning more about great white sharks in general. It's a gorgeous read-aloud book, brilliantly illustrated throughout with images of the rescue.
