In addition, its onomatopoeia and rhyme make the text very pleasing to listen to, and this combined with the bold and colourful illustrations encourages engagement and participation.

The under-fives seem to have a particular enthusiasm for identifying different vehicles, possibly because there is little else to do when securely strapped in a car seat. I think they will enjoy calling out the names of the various vehicles and then repeating the question.

There is a surprise towards the end, with double opening pages displaying a closeup of the ice cream van driver holding a huge ice cream. Be warned, this will encourage children to want ice cream, so it may not be the best bedtime story.
