Opening sentence
Look, look! Here comes a train. Will the driver be a waver?
'Will the Driver Be A Waver?' and its repeated tongue-twister of a question, as per the title, invites an eager response from its audience. In addition, its onomatopoeia and rhyme make the text very pleasing to listen to, and this combined with the bold and colourful illustrations encourages engagement and participation.

The under-fives seem to have a particular enthusiasm for identifying different vehicles, possibly because there is little else to do when securely strapped in a car seat. I think they will enjoy calling out the names of the various vehicles and then repeating the question.

There is a surprise towards the end, with double opening pages displaying a closeup of the ice cream van driver holding a huge ice cream. Be warned, this will encourage children to want ice cream, so it may not be the best bedtime story.
