I asked for a pet, but what did I get?
This is another fantastic story by the amazing Ruth Paul, the New Zealand author of I am Jellyfish, Mini Whinny and more.

In this book we follow a little girl's journey from disappointment, that the pet she ended up with was a fish (you can't pat a fish), to wonder, as she uses her imagination to dream up adventures that her fish might have had or have. The perfect story for younger readers, who will get a kick out of imagining playing house with a fish, trying to dress up a fish... or trying to kiss a fish.

This books would work very well as a read-aloud. The story could even kickstart a great discussion about accepting others and appreciating the qualities that our friends and peers bring to the table.
