Opening sentence
Charlie hated children, their howls, their shouts, their screams. Their burbs and farts and coughs and snots would haunt him in his dreams.
I'm sure all of us 'of a certain age' remember the dentist being called the Murder House! The fear of that slow grinding drill and the big silver fillings stuffed into our poor teeth (that have lasted a jolly long time!).
Sam Smith has written a lovely, bouncy, rhyming text that will ease the fear of the dreaded visit to the dentist. With a good sized font, in different colours and styles this book begs to be read aloud with great expression!
The bold, colourful illustrations depict the characters well, especially the large white teeth! They are large in size so can be easily seen when reading the story aloud, including the dentist chair, instruments and surroundings in a dental practice.
Sadly the SUPER dentist, Charlie, doesn't like children so he is in a rather difficult predicament until one day he meets the perfect child, Grace. She changes Charlie's perception of dealing with these horrible, icky sticky creatures so he no longer fears them.
This amusing story is a must-read for children and adults alike with excellent tips for teeth care from the ex-dentist, now comedian/author Sam Smith.
