Huff-puff! Puff-pant! Go, scooter, go!
When you pick up a book and it says 'The Storylines Gavin Bishop Award winner' in the top corner, you known you are likely about to be immersed in an amazing book! Illustrator Kaye Julian was the winner of the illustration award and the illustrations are the perfect accompaniment to the fun story written by Kyle Mewburn.

We meet Hugo, a boy zooming around on his scooter whilst avoiding a menagerie of anthropomorphic animals in a variety of vehicles, including a tractor, AKA Carrot Maker 3000! This is a story filled with rich language and rhyme and the action words burst off the page in large font which adds to the fun if you are reading it aloud.

So many amazing little illustrative details weave their way through the book: the pile of toy vehicles at the start, personalised number plates and so many other funny little inclusions. The colours are quite soft and slightly muted, which is a contrast to the fast and racing vibe of the story. I can see young readers noticing more and more details with successive readings and delighting at the humour in them.

A delightful book that would be picked up over and over again to share!
