Opening sentence
Long ago, people thought the argonaut STOLE her shell because no one believed an octopus could make such a lovely spiral shell.
Immediately the cover of this book indicated I might learn something new, and the beautiful end pages confirmed it. This exquisite non-fiction book introduces us to the family of octopods known as argonauts.

The author tells the story of the argonaut providing interesting scientific facts in appealing and interesting bite sized snippets. Marlo Garnsworthy then illustrates them with both magical images of the creature and clear details of the information related. This clever use of visual information invites the reader’s imagination while gaining knowledge.

We are then introduced to the marine biologist Jeanne Villepreux-Power who first discovered the secret of the argonaut and its beautiful shell. Her journey and passion are sure to inspire budding scientists.

The book concludes with facts about argonauts and Jeanne Villepreux-Power.

While this is a non fiction book, it is so beautifully presented it should be read aloud and enjoyed with a class.
