Opening sentence
Theo was a dinosaur. This surprised his parents, who were humans.
This book has a catchy title that will grab any dinosaur lover's interest, and is well worth a read.

The Only Dinosaur in School is a story about Theo, a child who feels different and alone in the world. The thought of attending school with 'normal' children was absolutely terrifying, leading Theo to initially hide his difference. This story touches on how most of us feel as we are about to start school, or perhaps a new career, so it's easy to relate to.

It imparts a strong message to the reader that although we are all different, we all have feelings and experience these in similar ways. My children and junior students were intrigued by this story and loved the twist at the end.

The story works perfectly as a read-aloud.
